Shocking Revelation: 'The Pitt' Star Sepideh Moafi Defies Agent's Demand to Change Name!

Actress Sepideh Moafi recently shared a significant personal experience with People magazine, revealing that her initial talent agent advised her to change her name to secure more acting roles. Moafi, known for her upcoming role in “The Pitt” Season 2, recounted her immediate refusal, stating, “When I graduated from grad school, my first agent wanted me to change my name and I immediately said, ‘Fuck no.’”
Moafi acknowledged that while some actors, particularly people of color, have faced similar expectations and either chosen to change their names or declined, her decision was deeply personal. She emphasized that the choice to change one's name is “complicated” for anyone, and she harbors “no judgment” for those who decide to do so. However, for Moafi herself, the request felt like an attempt to alter her identity for the sake of marketability. “It felt like they needed me to be someone different in order to work or to sell something. I refused,” she explained.
Her steadfast refusal did not hinder her career. Instead, Moafi continued to pursue her path, successfully booking her first job, followed by subsequent roles, leading to what she describes as a “beautiful, varied career.” This resolve underscores a broader theme of authenticity and self-acceptance within the entertainment industry.
Currently, Sepideh Moafi is starring in “The Pitt” Season 2, where she portrays Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, an attending physician. Her character is slated to temporarily take over the responsibilities of Dr. Michael Robinavitch, played by Noah Wyle, who is away on sabbatical. Beyond “The Pitt,” Moafi’s notable television credits include acclaimed series such as “The Deuce,” “The L Word: Generation Q,” and “Black Bird,” showcasing her diverse range as an actress.
