Shocking Allegations and Mental Health Battle: Evan Dando Hospitalized Amidst Fan Accusations

Evan Dando, the frontman of The Lemonheads, has been hospitalized for mental health issues. This development follows recent allegations that Dando sent unsolicited sexual content to a fan. A representative for the grunge rocker confirmed his admission to a local hospital on Friday (Feb. 13), stating that he is now receiving comprehensive help from experienced doctors and mental health professionals for his long-standing struggles with mental health, which have been a concern since his childhood.
The allegations, as reported by journalist Tony Ortega on his Underground Bunker Substack, involve an anonymous fan, referred to as “Dawn.” The fan claimed that after she had simply congratulated Dando on the release of The Lemonheads' new album, “Love Chat,” in October, she received inappropriate video footage allegedly filmed by the musician of himself masturbating. Billboard has sought further comment from Dando’s representatives regarding both his hospitalization and the accusations.
Dando, who currently lives in Brazil with his second wife, Antonia Teixeira, has been openly candid about his lifelong battles with substance abuse. His experiences with addiction were extensively recounted in his 2025 memoir, “Rumors of My Demise.” While he reportedly quit using heroin, speed, and cocaine after a period in rehab in late 2021, Dando informed The New York Times last year that he continued to use “over-the-counter” substances. He famously declared, “I don’t believe God meant us to be sober,” though he emphasized that “heroin is really, really satanic for me.”
Shortly after the publication of his memoir, The Lemonheads released “Love Chat,” marking their first album of original music in 19 years. Reflecting on the band's longevity and unique position in the music industry, Dando shared with Billboard, “We’ve been around so long that it’s almost like a grudging respect — like the ugly building or the old hooker that just won’t go away, so people have to deal with it. I love that. It’s a very human quality, this dogged refusal to give up.”
