Shakira Stuns Mexico City with Massive Free Concert Announcement!

Colombian music superstar Shakira is scheduled to conclude the historic Mexican trek of her 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' World Tour with a spectacular free concert. The highly anticipated show will take place on March 1 at the heart of Mexico City, the Zócalo, marking her return to this iconic venue after nearly 20 years. Shakira officially announced the event on Friday (Feb. 20) through a brief video shared on her social media platforms, expressing her excitement and gratitude to her Mexican fans. She stated, "¡México lindo! Remember 2007 when I sang for you at the Zócalo? Today, I want to tell you that this experience will happen again this Sunday, March 1, at 8:00 PM." She added, "You have given me so, so much, and I hope I can give back a little bit of that love you’ve given me."
The head of government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, further reinforced the announcement. She shared a video on her social media featuring Daniel Concenzo, president of Grupo Modelo, the official sponsor of the concert. Brugada praised Shakira as an "extraordinary Latin artist who has triumphed worldwide," highlighting her immense popularity in Mexico. Shakira also confirmed that a portion of the show would be broadcast live on her personal channels, allowing a wider audience to partake in the celebration.
This free concert in Mexico’s main public square will serve as the culmination of an extensive and historic series of 31 performances by the Barranquilla-born artist across various cities in the Latin American country. The Mexican leg of the tour, which notably began in March 2025, included 12 dates at the capital’s Estadio GNP Seguros, with a 13th date at this iconic venue scheduled for Feb. 27. Prior to her highly anticipated Mexico City performance, Shakira is set to perform on Saturday (Feb. 21) in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, and on Feb. 24 in Mérida, Yucatán.
Shakira's 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' World Tour has already achieved a significant milestone, setting a Guinness World Record as the highest-grossing tour by a Hispanic artist of all time. According to Billboard Boxscore, the tour has generated an impressive $421.6 million and sold 3.3 million tickets across 86 reported shows.
Mexico City's Zócalo holds profound cultural and historical significance, considered an emblematic venue where political, social, cultural, and religious aspects converge. It ranks as the second-largest public plaza in the world, surpassed only by Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Shakira's previous performance at the Zócalo on May 27, 2007, drew an official crowd of 210,000 people, surpassing the previous record of 170,000 set by the Mexican rock band Café Tacvba in 2005. The current attendance record for the Zócalo is held by the Argentine band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, who gathered 300,000 people on June 3, 2023. Grupo Firme holds the second-highest record, having brought together 280,000 people a year earlier.
