Selena Gomez Ignites Beauty Brand Battle With Hailey Bieber

Recent social media activity by Selena Gomez has been widely interpreted as a response to remarks made by Hailey Bieber concerning their respective beauty brands. Gomez, the 33-year-old star of “Only Murders in the Building” and founder of Rare Beauty, shared a post that many saw as a direct reaction to Bieber, 28, whose Rhode Beauty line recently became available at Sephora, placing both brands on the same retail shelves.
In a now-deleted Instagram Story posted on Friday (October 17), Gomez wrote, “Just leave the girl alone. She can say whatever she wants. Doesn’t affect my life whatsoever. It’s just about relevance not intelligence.” She further urged her followers to practice kindness, adding, “All brands inspire me. There is room for everyone. And hopefully we can all stop.” This statement followed her recent marriage to producer Benny Blanco.
Gomez’s post came days after an interview with WSJ Magazine where Hailey Bieber, who married Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber in 2018, discussed the expansion of Rhode Beauty. In the interview, Bieber emphasized her disinterest in competing with other brands, stating, “It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that. When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that.” She concluded by saying, “I think there is space for everybody. I don’t feel competitive with people that I’m not inspired by.”
Despite persistent reports of an alleged feud between Gomez and Bieber over the years, both celebrities have consistently denied any animosity. In a notable instance in March 2023, Gomez publicly defended Bieber after learning she was receiving online criticism. At the time, Gomez posted on Instagram, “Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity. This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying.” She concluded that post with a plea, “I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
