Sacred Heart Reopens as Scrubs Revival Returns to ABC With New Trailer 17 Years Later

The medical sitcom Scrubs is set to return for a 10th season, premiering on ABC on February 25 with a special double episode, marking its comeback after a sixteen-year hiatus.
A newly released trailer confirms that the series will reunite the original cast at Sacred Heart Hospital while introducing new characters, blending nostalgic humor with fresh storylines.
The revival aims to recapture the show’s signature mix of absurd comedy, heartfelt drama, and character-driven storytelling that made it a standout in the early 2000s.
Zach Braff reprises his role as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian, alongside Donald Faison as Dr. Christopher Turk, Sarah Chalke as Dr. Eliot Reid, Judy Reyes as Nurse Carla Espinosa, and John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox.
The trailer suggests that while time has passed, the core dynamics remain intact: J.D. and Turk’s enduring friendship, Eliot’s awkward charm, Carla’s steady presence, and Dr. Cox’s abrasive mentorship style.
Returning supporting actors Robert Maschio and Phill Lewis will also appear, reinforcing the continuity with the original series.
The new season centers on the veteran doctors training a fresh cohort of medical interns, setting up a generational clash that will drive much of the narrative.
New cast members include Vanessa Bayer, Joel Kim Booster, Ava Bunn, Jacob Dudman, David Gridley, Layla Mohammadi, and Amanda Morrow.
Their arrival signals a shift toward mentorship themes while maintaining the ensemble format that defined earlier seasons.
Created by Bill Lawrence and inspired by the experiences of Dr. Jonathan Doris, Scrubs originally premiered in 2001 on NBC before moving to ABC for its eighth and ninth seasons.
Though the season eight finale, “My Finale,” was initially designed as a series conclusion, the show briefly continued with a retooled ninth season focused on medical students.
For the revival, veterans Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Braff, Faison, Chalke, and Lawrence.
Produced by 20th Television, the series will air on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with episodes also available for streaming on Hulu.
