Sabrina Carpenter Blasts White House Over ‘Disgusting’ ICE Video Song Use

Pop star Sabrina Carpenter has strongly condemned the White House for its unauthorized use of her song “Juno” in a video posted on Tuesday, December 2nd. The video, shared by the Donald Trump administration, featured a compilation of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers engaged in chasing, tackling, and handcuffing individuals on the streets, with a snippet of Carpenter’s “Juno” playing in the background. Carpenter took to X to express her outrage, stating, “this video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.”
This controversial use of her music puts a disturbing spin on a lighthearted gag from Carpenter’s recent Short n’ Sweet Tour. Throughout the tour, which concluded in November, Carpenter playfully “arrested” audience members for being “too attractive” just before performing “Juno,” distributing fuzzy pink handcuffs to notable figures like Millie Bobby Brown, TWICE, SZA, and Miss Piggy. The White House’s video ominously featured the same line, “Have you ever tried this one?” over the footage of actual arrests, starkly contrasting Carpenter’s original intent.
Carpenter has been a vocal detractor of Donald Trump, previously expressing disappointment at his 2024 election win to her fans. This incident is not an isolated one, as the Trump administration has a history of using musicians’ work without authorization to promote its political agendas. Just last month, Olivia Rodrigo similarly criticized the White House for pairing her song “All-American Bitch” with a video encouraging self-deportations. Prior to that, Kenny Loggins slammed the administration for using “Danger Zone” in an AI-generated video targeting protestors, and Taylor Swift fans called out the White House for using “The Fate of Ophelia” in a TikTok post. Billboard has reached out to the White House for comment regarding Sabrina Carpenter’s statement.
