Expressing her anguish, Cia Edmonds said her daughter was undergoing efforts to repair the damage caused by gunshot wounds to the head and neck. A GoFundMe page was launched to provide financial support for the family as they face an uncertain recovery journey.

Relatives described overwhelming fear as they wait for updates on Maya’s condition. Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of sheer terror inside the school as chaos erupted. One student described how classrooms went into immediatelockdown, with desks and tables used to barricade doors.

Police response was swift, with officers arriving within two minutes in what authorities described as a rapid response. Both the secondary and elementary schools were placed under temporary closure for the remainder of the week.

Tumbler Ridge, a small mountain town, is widely known for its tight-knit community and peaceful setting. Local officials described it as an unusually safe place where residents rarely lock their doors.

Mayor Darryl Krakowka said he would know every victim personally, calling them family rather than residents. The tragedy has left the town submerged in collective grief. National and international leaders issued strong condemnation following the attack.
