Royal Family Rift: Princess Beatrice and Edo Mozzi's Marriage Crisis Deepens, US Move Looming

Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, often appear as a normal young family, recently spotted cycling with their children near their Oxfordshire home. However, beneath this veneer of normalcy, their lives are profoundly impacted by the ongoing drama surrounding the House of York, particularly the fallout from the disgraced Duke and Duchess of York, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. The past few months have been particularly trying for Beatrice, who remains ninth in line to the throne, as the shame associated with her parents continues to cast a long shadow.
Friends and royal sources have revealed concerns that these family troubles are taking a toll on Beatrice and Edoardo's five-year marriage. Edoardo, a 42-year-old property designer, is reportedly "sick and tired" of the persistent House of York drama and its overarching impact on their lives and his international interior design business. Conversely, Beatrice, described as a tearful "daddy's girl" and previously "hyper-dependent" on her mother, finds it hard to distance herself from her shamed parents and is feeling increasingly "isolated."
Edoardo is determined to protect his business interests and reputation from the "unmitigated scandal" of his in-laws. He has been actively trying to keep Beatrice distant from her parents and, more generally, from the wider Royal Family, fearing that the "Epstein 'contagion'" and Prince Andrew's past activities, such as Pitch@Palace, could lead to "awkward questions" for them all. He believes Beatrice needs to forge her own life, independent of these family ties.
Beatrice, however, struggles with this perspective. Raised to believe in "dynasty and blue blood," she finds it difficult to reconcile Edoardo's desire for distance with her deeply ingrained beliefs, often bursting into tears over the situation. Her continued devotion to her father was evident in January when she took her elder daughter, Sienna, for a horse ride with Prince Andrew in Windsor Great Park. The Daily Mail also revealed her regular contact with Andrew and a top-secret visit to him at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate.
The tensions between the couple became more public when Edoardo embarked on business trips to the US (including Miami, Palm Beach, and Los Angeles) and Australia, sometimes leaving Beatrice to cope with critical family moments alone. His trip to Palm Beach, days after Andrew was reportedly moved from Royal Lodge, raised eyebrows due to its association with Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre. Despite this, Edoardo maintained he was "deliberately trying to promote the fact that he is his own man so as to protect his business interests and reputation," and to ensure he could visit the US for business without official scrutiny.
Edoardo's property company, Banda, has seen significant growth since his marriage into the Royal Family. Latest Companies House records show Banda Design Ltd, its interior design arm, reported a turnover of £2.2 million in 2024 and retained profits of £774,353, a stark contrast to being £244,000 in the red a year before their wedding. While royal connections have undeniably boosted his profile and opened doors globally, especially in the United States, Edoardo acknowledges the "sword of Damocles" hanging over them due to the ongoing scandals.
The Epstein files' release intensified public scrutiny on Beatrice and her sister Princess Eugenie, revealing a more significant presence of the financier in their lives than previously understood. Although not accused of wrongdoing, the sisters face questions about their royal standing and pressure to address their links to Epstein. Beatrice is said to be "mortified" by the scandal and "desperate to hold things together" in the face of adversity.
Amid these profound challenges, the couple is reportedly considering a significant life change: relocating abroad to escape the "furore back home." A royal source indicates that a move to the United States is most likely, following in the footsteps of Beatrice’s cousin Prince Harry. Princess Eugenie's successful move to Portugal with her husband Jack Brooksbank in 2022 also serves as a precedent. Such a move is seen as a "fresh start" for Beatrice and Edoardo, potentially helping to "kick start and get their marriage back on track," especially as the "Andrew and Sarah problem isn’t going to go away."
Beatrice's emotional state has been particularly low, partly attributed to her encouraging her father to participate in the "car crash" 2019 Newsnight interview. She felt the absence of Edoardo, who was away on business during Andrew's recent arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, leaving her without a "shoulder to cry on." Despite these difficulties, both Beatrice and Edoardo are reportedly "desperate to make a good go of things" for the sake of their two daughters, Sienna (four) and Athena (one), and Edoardo's ten-year-old son, Wolfie, from a previous relationship, whom Beatrice has "really taken to heart."
While the couple denies marital troubles, with Edoardo insisting his trips are purely for business, the attraction of a life away from the intense glare of UK publicity is becoming increasingly "irresistible." The sisters also share a desire to avoid having their mother, Sarah Ferguson, live with them should she return and face further public scrutiny, viewing her as an "embarrassment." This provides another strong incentive for a potential international move. Beatrice faces an unenviable dilemma: continue to hope for a royal future amidst scandal, or embrace a new life with her husband, stepping away from a birthright that has brought considerable heartache.
