Ronaldo Ignites Firestorm with Controversial League Comparisons and Bold Claims on Global Fame!
)
Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has ignited considerable debate by asserting that the Saudi Pro League (SPL) presents a greater challenge than Spain's La Liga, a league where he achieved unprecedented success. Ronaldo, who spent nine iconic years at Real Madrid, became the club's all-time leading scorer with 451 goals and secured 16 trophies. Despite this historic tenure, he now rates the Saudi Pro League as more demanding, claiming it is "more easy to score in Spain than to score in Saudi Arabia." He emphasized that many do not comprehend the difficulties of playing in the SPL, particularly in scorching 40-degree Celsius heat, and urged football enthusiasts to inquire with other star players in Saudi Arabia about the league's competitive nature.
Ronaldo, currently the standout player for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, has also taken aim at the Portuguese and French Ligue 1. During a discussion with Piers Morgan, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner unequivocally stated, "Saudi Pro League is better than the Portuguese league and better than Ligue 1, it's only PSG." He further questioned the exclusion of SPL goals and assists from Ballon d'Or consideration, dismissing it as "all excuses." This bold claim, which now includes his home country's league, has provoked varied reactions from fans, with some expressing skepticism about Al Nassr's potential performance in European leagues.
The Al Nassr captain, who has finished as the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League for the past two seasons, maintains his prolific goal-scoring ability. He believes he would achieve similar success in the Premier League if he played for a top team, stating, "If I played the Premier League, now in a top team, I will score the same! If I had a good team, at 40 years old, I will score the same." Ronaldo insists that the SPL does not receive the respect it merits, highlighting that critics "have never been here, they never play here" and therefore do not understand the rigorous conditions. He reiterated his belief that the Saudi League is "much, much better than Portuguese League, of course. French league is only PSG. Premier League is good, of course, is the number one."
Ronaldo, with an impressive career tally of 952 goals and holding the men's world record for most international goals, attributes his sustained success to a continuous learning mindset. He remarked, "What makes a difference is that you can improve all the time, even at my age. This is the big mistake of the players, they think they know everything and they don't learn anymore." He proudly noted, "I have scored more goals after 30." When questioned about reaching the 1,000-goal mark or the 2026 World Cup, Ronaldo stated he is "not thinking about that" and is focused on "enjoying the moment." He also addressed past comments from former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney regarding Lionel Messi, asserting he has "no problem" with Rooney's choice and respects him, adding, "I don't care about that anymore" when asked if he considers himself the best in the world.
