Rock Legends Roar: Papa Roach Smashes Mainstream Chart Records!

Papa Roach, featuring H2O vocalist Toby Morse, has achieved a significant milestone as their song “Braindead” climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart dated Oct. 4. This accomplishment marks Papa Roach’s 12th leader on the chart, securing their position as the band with the 10th most No. 1s in the chart's 44-year history, breaking a tie with Volbeat. The Jacoby Shaddix-led group first ruled Mainstream Rock Airplay in 2009 with “Lifeline,” nine years after initially reaching the survey with “Last Resort,” which peaked at No. 4 in 2000. Their current No. 1 streak is particularly impressive, with “Braindead” being their fifth consecutive chart-topper, a run that began in September 2022 with “No Apologies.”
For Toby Morse, the H2O frontman, “Braindead” represents his first solo ruler on a Billboard chart and his debut appearance as an individual artist. While H2O has multiple entries, including No. 1s, on album charts from 1997’s “Thicker Than Water” through 2015’s “Use Your Voice,” this marks a distinct personal achievement for Morse.
Concurrently, “Braindead” is also making substantial progress on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, jumping from No. 19 to No. 10. In the week ending Sept. 25, the song garnered 2.5 million audience impressions, marking a 24% increase. This ascent makes it Papa Roach’s 10th top 10 hit on this chart, and their fifth in a row. The band’s highest placement on this chart was with “Even If It Kills Me,” which reached No. 2 in June.
Currently, “Braindead” stands as a stand-alone single. Papa Roach’s most recent album, “Ego Trip,” which was released in April 2022, debuted at No. 6 on Top Hard Rock Albums and has accumulated 204,000 equivalent album units to date. All Billboard charts, including those dated Oct. 4, were scheduled to update on Tuesday, Sept. 30, on Billboard.com, coinciding with a special promotional period offering free access to Billboard charts for subscribers to the Chart Beat newsletter.
