Ripple Secures Landmark License Win in Singapore, President Reacts to Major Victory

Ripple, a leading enterprise blockchain company, has achieved a significant regulatory milestone by obtaining an expanded Major Payment Institution (MPI) license in Singapore. This crucial development allows the San Francisco-headquartered firm to considerably broaden its range of activities within Singapore, which is globally recognized as one of the most advanced digital-asset regulators and a key financial hub in Asia.
Monica Long, President of Ripple, promptly reacted to the news, framing the license expansion as a major victory for Ripple's continued growth and its expanding customer base. She highlighted that, "With this expanded scope of payment activities for the MPI license, Ripple can scale our licensed payment services in Singapore for our growing customer base, including banks and fintechs. Proud to keep growing in Singapore." This statement underscores the strategic importance of the license for the company's operations and market reach.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) officially approved an expanded scope for Ripple’s MPI license. This high-level authorization, possessed by only a limited number of crypto companies worldwide, signifies a robust regulatory endorsement. The expansion is critical because it enables Ripple to offer a more extensive suite of regulated payment services, including comprehensive end-to-end cross-border payments, which are vital for international financial transactions. Furthermore, and significantly for the digital asset ecosystem, the expanded license allows Ripple to legally support digital payment tokens (DPTs) such as XRP and RLUSD within these regulated transactions.
The implications of this expanded license are far-reaching for Ripple's operations in the Asia-Pacific region. It empowers the company to legally onboard a greater number of financial institutions, including banks and fintechs, allowing them to send large volumes of cross-border payments using Ripple’s robust payment rails. This capability represents a substantial win for Ripple, reinforcing its position as a preferred partner for global payment solutions.
Singapore's reputation as a progressive and clear regulatory environment for digital assets is a major factor in Ripple's strategic focus on the region. The MAS has developed regulatory standards that serve as a benchmark for many other countries designing their own crypto regulations. Ripple's long-term commitment to this cryptocurrency-friendly jurisdiction is evident through its establishment of an Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore in 2017.
Monica Long had previously lauded Singapore's forward-looking regulators, even amidst Ripple's high-stakes legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, following the company securing its initial full license to operate in the city-state in 2023. With this latest expanded license, Ripple is exceptionally well-positioned to strengthen its already significant presence in the Asia-Pacific region, which is currently shaping up to be the fastest-growing digital-asset market globally.
