In a significant political development, Abia State Governor, Mr. Alex Otti of the opposition Labour Party, joined four other South-east governors in backing President Tinubu's re-election bid for 2027. Governor Otti clarified that he would not oppose the President's candidacy, stating, "I am not running for President. So, why would I oppose his presidency?" He considered his support a "natural thing" given his role in the same administration, while criticizing some politicians for creating divisions for selfish ambitions. This declaration followed a similar endorsement from Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, who stated his party would not field a presidential candidate in 2027.
