Pop Superstars Shakira & Burna Boy Unite for Epic 2026 World Cup Opening Performance!

Colombian superstar Shakira and Nigerian icon Burna Boy are confirmed to perform "Dai Dai," the official song of the 2026 World Cup, live for the very first time during the tournament’s opening ceremony. This highly anticipated event is scheduled for June 11 at the Estadio Ciudad de México, also known as Estadio Azteca, as announced by FIFA on Thursday night, June 4. The duo will headline the spectacular show, which is set to commence 90 minutes before the kickoff of the opening match, promising a grand start to the global football spectacle.
The musical segment of the opening ceremony will also feature a constellation of other major stars. These artists, including Alejandro Fernández, Maná, J Balvin, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, and Tyla, are all integral parts of the FIFA 2026 World Cup’s official album. FIFA, in a joint statement with Sony Music, expressed that "‘Dai Dai’ will resonate throughout a tournament that will connect billions of people through the world’s most beloved sport," underscoring the song's significance.
Beyond its role as the official World Cup anthem, "Dai Dai" also serves as the official song for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. This initiative aims to raise an ambitious $100 million by the culmination of the tournament, with the vital goal of providing children worldwide with access to quality education and diverse sports opportunities, linking the joy of football with a powerful social cause.
Shakira's involvement extends beyond the opening ceremony, as the "Hips Don't Lie" singer is also slated as one of the co-headliners for the halftime show of the FIFA World Cup Final. This grand finale, featuring global stars Madonna and BTS alongside Shakira, will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. This marks a significant milestone for Shakira, as it is the fourth time she has contributed songs to the World Cup, showcasing her enduring connection to the event. Her past contributions include "Hips Don't Lie – Bamboo" for Germany 2006, the iconic official song "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" for South Africa 2010, and "La La La" performed at the closing ceremony in Brazil 2014.
As the host of the tournament’s opening ceremony, Mexico will initiate a trilogy of inaugural events. These celebratory kick-offs will subsequently continue in Canada and the United States, the other co-host nations of the 2026 World Cup, with additional artists for these upcoming events expected to be announced in due course, further building anticipation for the tri-nation tournament.
