Political Titans Mobilize: Ambode & Speaker Tajudeen Lead Charge for Tinubu's 2027 Re-election Bid

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, President Bola Tinubu has received significant endorsements and assurances of support from key political figures, signaling a concerted effort to secure his re-election. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Wednesday, led a delegation of key figures from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he unequivocally assured President Tinubu of the unconditional support of all former CPC members within the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
Speaker Tajudeen, who first entered the House of Representatives in 2011 under the CPC platform, described the meeting as historic, emphasizing that it was a demonstration of appreciation and solidarity for the President's actions. He firmly dispelled any notions of disunity, stating, “More than 90 per cent of those who were active during the time of the CPC are represented here,” thereby refuting claims that the CPC bloc was fractured or not aligned with the current government. He further announced plans by the former CPC members to establish a robust movement dedicated to ensuring President Tinubu's return for a second term in 2027. This movement, to be known as “Former CPC Members for Asiwaju,” will be cascaded down to all states, local governments, wards, and polling units across the country to mobilize continuous support for the administration and the President's re-election.
The Speaker underscored the historical significance of the CPC's role in the formation of the APC in 2013, noting that its members joined hands with other legacy political parties to actualize the dream of repositioning Nigeria. He reiterated their commitment to supporting the execution of President Tinubu’s 'Renewed Hope Agenda' for the betterment of Nigerian citizens. Speaker Tajudeen also took the opportunity to express profound gratitude to President Tinubu for the support and respect he extended to the late former president, Muhammadu Buhari, who served as the national leader of the CPC. He specifically acknowledged Tinubu’s pivotal role in 2010 when he offered a hand of partnership that ultimately led to Buhari's presidential victory, a dream that had eluded him in previous attempts under the CPC banner. Furthermore, the Speaker commended President Tinubu for the unprecedented respect shown to the late former president's family during his demise, including his personal involvement and the dispatch of representatives to the United Kingdom, Katsina, and Kaduna to pay last respects.
Highlighting the increased representation of former CPC members in the current government, Speaker Tajudeen pointed out that, for the first time, there are three serving governors of CPC extraction, alongside numerous ministers, members of the House of Representatives, and chief executives. This marks a significant increase compared to the active days of the CPC, when there was only one governor. He attributed these achievements to President Tinubu's support for them and the broader former CPC family, concluding with a pledge of enduring loyalty: “we are together with you today, we will be with you tomorrow, and we will be with you forever.”
Concurrently, former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has also publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid. Speaking in Badagry, Lagos, during a sensitisation programme on Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration, Ambode urged residents to register and collect their PVCs in anticipation of the 2027 polls. Through his representative, Dr. Seyi Bamigbade, Director General of the Tinubu-Ambo Support Group, Ambode asserted that President Tinubu has laid a robust foundation for national growth and, therefore, deserves a second term to consolidate on his administration's achievements. He passionately called upon Lagosians and Nigerians nationwide to ensure the President's re-election in 2027, advocating for the continued benefits of his “progressive leadership.”
During the same event, Ambode also announced his intention to offer himself once again to serve Lagos State, with a “renewed vision to build on the gains of the past and address today’s realities.” The sensitisation campaign was described as a crucial effort to mobilize Lagos residents for active participation in the democratic process, with the clear message: “no PVC, no voting.” The Tinubu-Ambo Support Group committed to house-to-house sensitisation to ensure every eligible voter registers and collects their card, reinforcing the belief that both President Tinubu and Mr. Ambode represent continuity, progress, and people-focused governance. The event garnered strong support from community leaders, youth groups, and various stakeholders, all pledging their backing for both President Tinubu and Ambode in the upcoming elections.
