Political Bombshell: Oshiomhole Declares Peoples Democratic Party Deceased

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has strongly refuted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State's characterization of Governor Monday Okpebholo's first year in office as unproductive. Speaking to journalists in Benin, the former governor not only dismissed the PDP's claims but also questioned the media's continued engagement with what he termed a 'dead party.' He urged journalists to prioritize verifiable facts derived from their direct coverage of events across the state over statements he deemed lacking in credibility.
Oshiomhole accused the previous administration, presumably led by the PDP, of failing to deliver tangible results during its tenure, alleging that it was marked by numerous groundbreaking ceremonies that ultimately yielded little. In stark contrast, he asserted that Governor Okpebholo inherited a state that had been neglected for eight years. Despite this challenging inheritance, Oshiomhole maintained that the current administration has already embarked on and achieved impactful projects.
Among the key initiatives highlighted is the ongoing construction of a flyover at Ramat Park, strategically aimed at alleviating severe traffic congestion in that bustling transport corridor. Oshiomhole emphasized the significant economic benefits of such projects, including reduced travel time and decreased fuel wastage, underscoring their immense value. He further pointed to numerous road projects actively under construction throughout the state as concrete evidence of the administration's commitment to development, vehemently rejecting any suggestions that these projects were mere political propaganda.
On the critical sector of education, Senator Oshiomhole accused the previous administration of profound neglect, claiming that many schools were left with insufficient teachers and dilapidated facilities. He proudly stated that Governor Okpebholo has initiated comprehensive rehabilitation efforts for these schools, actively working to restore conducive learning environments, with visible improvements already evident across Edo State. Furthermore, he commended the Okpebholo administration for restoring or expanding subventions to higher institutions, specifically mentioning Ambrose Alli University and Edo University, Iyamho, noting that these crucial interventions have helped stabilize the institutions following years of industrial crises.
Oshiomhole also touched upon past administrative actions that created avoidable tension within the esteemed Benin Kingdom. He accused the previous government of attempting to elevate dukes to kings and imposing traditional rulers without adhering to due process. He expressed satisfaction that these contentious issues have since been resolved, and a sense of normalcy restored under Governor Okpebholo's leadership.
Addressing his role in federal politics, Senator Oshiomhole clarified that while his responsibilities in the National Assembly are national in scope, he remains steadfastly committed to advocating for key projects that directly benefit Edo State. He recalled his immediate prioritization of the reconstruction of the dilapidated Benin Auchi Okene road, which had deteriorated to a point where motorists frequently faced hours of stranding. His very first motion in the Senate sought urgent intervention for this road, and both he and Senator Monday Okpebholo collectively pressed President Bola Tinubu to explore alternative funding mechanisms beyond the conventional annual budget. Oshiomhole confirmed that the vital road is now under construction and unequivocally remains his foremost federal concern for the Edo North senatorial district.
