Police Nab Suspects in Horrific Kano Mother & Six Children Murder Case

The Kano State Police Command has swiftly arrested three principal suspects linked to the brutal killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano metropolis. This development has been widely commended by public figures, including the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, who urged a thorough investigation and speedy prosecution to ensure justice.
Senator Barau, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, described the arrests as a welcome and reassuring development amidst widespread public outrage. He emphasized the need for comprehensive investigations and prompt arraignment of the suspects to face the full weight of the law, vowing to closely monitor the case until its logical conclusion.
The Deputy Senate President expressed his deep distress over the inhumane act, stating he was "traumatised, devastated and overwhelmed by the murder of these innocent children and their mother," calling it barbaric and beyond comprehension. He offered prayers for the victims and for strength and comfort for the husband and father, Haruna Bashir.
The Kano State Police Command, following a directive from Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, conducted an intelligence-led operation overseen by Ibrahim Bakori, Kano Commissioner of Police. Through its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command identified the arrested suspects as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, 40, also known as “Chebe,” of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21, popularly called “Wawo,” of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, all in Kano. The trio was apprehended during a sting operation conducted from Saturday night to early Sunday morning.
Investigations have revealed that Umar Auwalu, identified as a nephew of the deceased woman, was the ringleader and has confessed to the heinous crime. Auwalu also admitted that the group had carried out previous killings, including the murder and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters in Kano. Items recovered during the operation include four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club (locally known as gora), some cash, and other dangerous weapons. The police command lauded its operatives for their swift response and thanked the public for their cooperation, assuring residents of continued efforts to deliver justice and maintain peace in the state as investigations proceed.
