Phyna Declares Dominance in Celebrity Boxing, Eyes Next High-Profile Bout

Reality TV star Josephina Otabor, widely known as Phyna, achieved a significant victory by knocking out actress Nkechi Blessing in the fourth round of their highly anticipated celebrity boxing bout. The event, part of Balmoral Group Promotions’ ‘Chaos in the Ring’ series, took place on Thursday, October 1, at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. This contest marked a historic moment as the first female celebrity boxing fight organized under the Balmoral series, with Phyna securing the win via a technical knockout.

The fight was the culmination of weeks of public exchanges and even a physical confrontation between Phyna and Nkechi Blessing during a pre-bout press conference. Following her decisive victory, the former Big Brother Naija reality show winner expressed a strong interest in pursuing professional boxing. She immediately issued a challenge to actress Etinosa Idemudia, who was present ringside and promptly accepted the challenge, stating, “Challenge accepted.” Phyna further elaborated on her motivation, accusing Etinosa of repeatedly sending her messages in her DMs and expressing a desire to settle their issues in the ring. Etinosa clarified that her messages were intended as advice, encouraging Phyna to carry herself with pride.

Phyna’s triumph came with substantial rewards. She was awarded ₦50 million from Worldstreet, a trading, gaming, and entertainment platform. Additionally, she received an electric vehicle and a championship belt, celebrating her status as the new champion of the first-ever female celebrity bout in ‘Chaos in the Ring’ history.

The Independence Day edition of Balmoral’s ‘Chaos in the Ring’ event also featured other notable matches. In another celebrity contest, Carter Efe defeated Speed Darlington in their four-round bout, retaining his celebrity boxing title. The event also showcased professional boxing, with Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah defeating Nigeria’s Godday “Zodsolo” Appah to claim the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship. The entire event was broadcast on SuperSport and DAZN and was powered by Bet9ja.
