PDP Turmoil Deepens: BoT Recommends Controversial Caretaker Committee

Against a backdrop of significant legal challenges regarding its planned national elective convention, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) reconciliation committee has put forth a crucial recommendation: the establishment of an all-inclusive national caretaker committee. This proposed committee would be tasked with overseeing the party’s affairs as an alternative to proceeding with the contentious convention.

The six-member reconciliation committee, whose report was sighted by LEADERSHIP on Friday, emphatically cautioned that any progression with the national convention at this juncture must be contingent upon a favorable legal status and the positive disposition of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, the committee expressed strong doubts about INEC's willingness to monitor such a convention, citing the multitude of court orders and judgments currently lodged against it.

The committee, structured to ensure broad regional representation, comprises Amb. Hassan Adamu from the North East as Chairman, Prince Olagunsonye Oyinlola from the South West, and Dr. Mike Oghiadomhe from the South South serving as Secretary. Other esteemed members include Sen. Zaynab Kure from the North Central, Dr. Lubna Gusau from the North West, and Chief Ugochukwu Okeke representing the South East. This recommendation highlights the party's efforts to navigate its internal disputes while adhering to legal frameworks and regulatory oversight.
