Osun LG Funds Scandal Rocks Federal Government Amidst Aregbesola Loyalists' Outcry

The Omoluwabi Progressives, an influential offshoot of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has vehemently denounced the recent allocation of local government funds in Osun State to individuals they deem "illegal political functionaries." This action, the group asserts, represents a direct and audacious affront to the foundational principles of democracy, the rule of law, and the constitutional integrity of Nigeria.
During a press conference held in Osogbo on Monday, presided over by its chairman, Alhaji Azzes Issa Adesiji, the Omoluwabi Progressives issued a stern warning to the implicated chairmen and councillors. They cautioned these individuals against accessing the funds deposited into what the group described as "illegal accounts," emphasizing that doing so would constitute criminal activity with inevitable future repercussions. The organization directly accused the federal government of engaging in acts of fascism by deliberately withholding statutory funds from duly elected local government executives within the state and illicitly rerouting these monies into accounts allegedly established in the names of chairmen and councillors affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adesiji further elaborated on the contentious nature of the October 15, 2022, Osun local government election, which brought these APC officials into their positions. He argued that the election was conducted in blatant violation of the extant Electoral Act. Crucially, Adesiji highlighted that a Federal High Court had already delivered a judgment nullifying these very elections, and a subsequent appeal lodged by the APC against this nullification has since been definitively struck out. He dismissed the APC's efforts to establish the legality of an election based on a "technical victory over pre-election matters" as "laughable and the height of political rascality," especially in light of a judgment that unequivocally invalidated the election.
In his impassioned address, Adesiji articulated the group's profound condemnation: "We condemn in the strongest terms this overbearing character of the Federal Government who has shown by this conduct that he will stop at nothing to manipulate institutions, desecrate the courts, and subvert the will of the people." The Omoluwabi Progressives concluded their statement by declaring an unwavering commitment to actively resist this perceived abuse of power, uphold the sanctity of the law, and vigorously champion the dignity and rights of the people of Osun State.
