Osun 2026 Guber Race Heats Up: Bola Oyebamiji Emerges APC Flagbearer Amidst Delegate Affirmation

Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji has been officially affirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Osun 2026 governorship election. This significant development occurred at the conclusion of the party's governorship primary election, which took place on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Osogbo, the state capital.

The affirmation of Oyebamiji, who previously served as the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterway Authority (NIWA), was a result of a consensus decision. Other aspirants vying for the party's ticket graciously stepped down in his favor. The motion for his adoption as the consensus candidate was formally moved by a former governorship aspirant within the party, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (SAN), popularly known as K-RAD. Adegoke stated that his endorsement was made on behalf of all the party's aspirants, signifying a unified front.

Senator Babajide Omoworare, another governorship aspirant, seconded the motion, further solidifying Bola Oyebamiji's position as the consensus governorship candidate for the APC. The primary election saw the participation of approximately 1,660 delegates, comprising five from each of the 332 wards across the state's 30 local government areas. These delegates later affirmed Oyebamiji by voice vote.

The Chairman of the Osun APC governorship primary election committee, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, who had arrived in the state on Friday to hold a stakeholders' engagement, officially announced Bola Oyebamiji as the party's candidate. Governor Okpebholo, by the powers conferred upon him, charged party members to work in unity, expressing strong confidence that Oyebamiji's candidature would lead the APC to victory in the August 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah and the party leadership. He specifically thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, the Igbimo Agba Osun (APC Elders’ Council), and all other party leaders and committee members for a rancour-free election. He formally accepted his nomination as the APC flag bearer for the Osun 2026 election, acknowledging that Osun is at a crossroads between wastefulness and greatness.

Oyebamiji pledged to usher in an era of productivity and a prosperous Osun State, promising to foster people-oriented projects and prioritize the citizens. He assured the people that he is fully prepared for the 2026 election and will make the leaders and good people of Osun proud, calling on all party members to join him in repositioning the state for greater productivity and development.

The primary election was well-attended by numerous dignitaries, including the aspirants who stepped down, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Governor of Ondo State and Co-Chairman of the APC Primary Committee Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Governor of Nasarawa State Abdullahi Sule, Deputy Governor of Lagos State Obafemi Hamzat, former Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, and members of the Igbimo Agba Osun led by Sola Akinwumi, a former Chairman of the Odu’a Group of Companies. Security was notably heavy at the Imperial Hall venue in Osogbo during the accreditation of delegates and the election process.
