Nigerian President Tinubu Bolsters Digital Sector with Key Innovation and Media Appointments

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a series of significant appointments, with Nasir Yammama designated as Senior Special Assistant on Innovation and Ahmed Ishaq Ningi appointed as Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media and Emergency Management. These strategic selections, effective immediately, highlight the administration's pronounced focus on leveraging digital advancements and fostering innovation to drive the 'Renewed Hope' agenda. The appointments were officially communicated by Mr. Olusola Abiola, Director of Information at the Office of the Vice President, outlining a new batch of 18 aides, consisting of six Special Advisers and twelve Senior Special Assistants, all tasked with supporting Vice President Kashim Shettima’s office.
Nasir Yammama, a native of Katsina State, is a highly acclaimed innovator and an accomplished engineer specializing in creative technology. He is widely recognized as the founder and CEO of Verdant, an agriculture technology company he established in 2015. Yammama's groundbreaking work in equipping local farmers with affordable technologies, significantly boosting their agricultural output and sales, earned him the prestigious Queens Young Leaders Award in 2017. Academically, he holds a Master of Science degree in Creative Technology from Middlesex University (2015). Yammama articulates 'creative technology' as the synergistic combination of technical and creative skills aimed at developing future technologies, a philosophy that perfectly aligns with his new advisory role on innovation within the presidential framework.
Ahmed Ishaq Ningi, originally from Ningi in Bauchi State, assumes the critical role of Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media and Emergency Management. Ningi brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as a media aide to Vice President Kashim Shettima during his tenure as Governor of Borno State. Currently residing in Kaduna State, he completed his secondary education at Turaki International Schools. While it has been stated that he pursued architecture at university, detailed information regarding his higher education is not extensively provided. Ningi is recognized as a skilled media specialist and professional graphics designer, often referring to himself as an 'Ambassador for Peace.' His diverse interests also include polo and motorsports. In his new capacity, he is expected to undertake expanded responsibilities, building upon his considerable background in media and public relations, albeit on a larger scale.
These two pivotal appointments are integral to a broader strategy aimed at enhancing the administrative capabilities of the Tinubu-led government. The entire cohort of 18 appointees is expected to work assiduously within the Vice President’s office to realize the ambitious objectives of the Renewed Hope agenda. This wave of presidential endorsements also includes other prominent individuals whose expertise will be crucial across various facets of national development.
Among other notable appointments, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, brother to the Labour Party's vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has been named Special Adviser for Political Matters. Rukaiya El-Rufai, daughter of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has been appointed Special Adviser to the President on National Economic Council (NEC) and Climate Change, bringing her considerable expertise as a financial expert, despite earlier speculations regarding a strained relationship with the new administration.
Further strengthening the presidential team, Tope Kolade Fasua joins as Special Adviser on Economic Matters, and Aliyu Modibbo as Special Adviser, General Duties. Jumoke Oduwole will serve as Special Adviser to the President on Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) and Investment, while Sadiq Wanka takes on the crucial role of Special Adviser to the President on Power Infrastructure. Additional Senior Special Assistants include Usman Mohammed for Administration and Office Coordination, Kingsley Nkwocha for Media and Communications, Peju Adebajo for Investment and Privatisation, Mohammed Bulama for Political/Special Duties, and Kingsley Uzoma for Agribusiness and Productivity Enhancement. Gimba Kakanda has been appointed for Research and Analytics, Temitola Adekunle-Johnson for Job Creation and MSMEs, Zainab Yunusa for NEC, Mariam Temitope for Regional Development Programmes, and Bashir Maidugu as Deputy State House Counsel.
