The minister called for renewed commitment to unity, peace, patriotism and national development, while stressing that Nigeria’s diversity remains a strength. In his message, Tunji-Ojo appealed to Nigerians to draw inspiration from the patriotism of the country’s founding fathers and work collectively towards a more peaceful and prosperous nation.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to national security, public safety and the Renewed Hope Agenda, while calling for mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed similarly urged Nigerians to use the anniversary to reflect on the sacrifices of previous generations and remain committed to building a united and inclusive country, while acknowledging the economic and social pressures confronting families and communities.
The anniversary comes as the country continues to grapple with economic pressures and the cost of living, making the calls for unity and collective effort particularly prominent in messages from government officials.
Governor Bala Mohammed urged citizens, including workers, farmers, entrepreneurs, professionals, community leaders and young people, to uphold values including hard work, honesty, accountability, tolerance and patriotism despite present challenges. President Tinubu’s Independence Day address, titled “From Reform to Prosperity,” also focused on Nigeria’s economic trajectory, with the President arguing that reforms undertaken by his administration have laid the foundation for a new phase centred on shared prosperity.
