NDC's Controversial Move: Waivers Granted to Omo-Agege, Ochei for Delta Senatorial Race

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially granted waivers to two prominent political figures, former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei. This pivotal decision clears them to contest the Delta Central and Delta North Senatorial seats, respectively, under the NDC banner in the forthcoming 2027 general elections. This development follows their formal defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC, signaling a notable political realignment as the next electoral cycle approaches.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director Esq, the party extended a warm welcome to both leaders. The statement assured Omo-Agege and Ochei of a “credible, inclusive, and people-oriented platform” through which they could pursue their political ambitions and actively contribute to the development of both Delta State and Nigeria at large.
The leadership of the NDC provided a detailed explanation for its waiver approvals, emphasizing the extensive political experience, strong leadership credentials, and long-standing commitment of both individuals to democratic governance, good governance, and dedicated public service. The party underscored its belief that both Omo-Agege and Ochei possess the requisite competence, established grassroots networks, and valuable institutional experience necessary to mount robust senatorial bids. This, according to the NDC, will enable them to deliver effective and impactful representation to their respective districts.
Furthermore, the Nigeria Democratic Congress reiterated its unwavering commitment to the principles of internal democracy, inclusion, and transparency within its operations. The party highlighted that this strategic move is a clear reflection of its broader ambition to significantly strengthen its internal structures in preparation for the 2027 elections. By embracing experienced leaders and ensuring a transparent process, the NDC aims to solidify its position as a viable political alternative for the citizens of Delta State and, by extension, the entire nation of Nigeria.
