National Loss: Elder Statesman Bamanga Tukur Honored in Death, Burial Set for Adamawa

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State led other dignitaries to the airport in Yola on Saturday night to receive the body of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the former Governor of the defunct Gongola State. Alhaji Tukur had passed away earlier in the day in Abuja. Governor Fintiri was joined by numerous officials and notable individuals, including the deceased’s first son, Awwal Tukur, who currently serves as the Secretary to the Adamawa State Government.

Upon arrival, the body was transported from the airport in Bachure, Yola, to the family’s residence, known as the Tukur Lodge, located in the Old GRA area within the Jimeta axis of Yola. At the family house, Governor Fintiri participated alongside the family, various government officials, and private citizens in offering prayers for the deceased.

The family has announced the details for the burial arrangements: funeral prayers are scheduled to take place at the Lamido Adamawa’s Palace in Yola at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Following these prayers, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur will be laid to rest.
