Musical Magic: Hans Zimmer to Score HBO's Highly Anticipated Harry Potter Series

HBO's highly anticipated "Harry Potter" series, set to debut in 2027, has officially enlisted acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer and his music company, Bleeding Fingers Music, to score the series. The ambitious television adaption will bring J.K. Rowling's seven-book saga to life, with each novel—from "Sorcerer’s Stone" through "Deathly Hallows"—receiving its own full season.

Zimmer will collaborate with Bleeding Fingers composers Kara Talve and Anže Rozman on the score. In a joint statement, the trio expressed deep respect for the franchise’s iconic musical legacy, emphasizing their responsibility to honor the original sound while reimagining it for a long form, prestige television format.

Reimagining the Harry Potter Musical Legacy

The Composers acknowledged the lasting influence of the original film scores, particularly those by John Williams, whose themes have become synonymous with the wizarding world. They also cited the contributions of Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, and Alexandre Desplat, noting that the new score aims to build upon these foundations while offering a fresh interpretation suited to episodic storytelling. Their goal, they said, is to bring audiences “a little bit closer” to the magic while remaining faithful to the series’ musical roots.

New Cast Brings Hogwarts to Life

The series will feature new generation of actors in its central roles. Dominic McLaughlin, previously seen in the Sky comedy Grow, has been cast as Harry Potter. Arabella Stanton, known for her role in the West End musical Matilda, will portray Hermione Granger, while newcomer Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley.

Supporting roles will be filled by a mix of established performers and rising talent. John Lithgow will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu will portray Severus Snape, Janet McTeer will appear as Professor McGonagall, and Nick Frost has been cast as Rubeus Hagrid.

Bleeding Fingers Music, founded by Zimmer over a decade ago, continues to expand its global presence, with a new London office set to open later this year.
