Motherwell School Unveils Exciting New Outdoor Learning Haven

Pupils at Brannock High School in Newarthill now have access to an exciting new outdoor learning and exploration space, following the successful opening of a woodland area. What was once a modest copse located to the west of the school grounds has undergone a remarkable transformation into a vibrant outdoor environment designed to foster a deeper connection with nature among young people.
This innovative space offers pupils a diverse array of lessons and activities. Academically, it provides opportunities for science projects, including ecology fieldwork and biodiversity surveys. Creatively, students can engage in subjects such as photography, drawing, and art. Furthermore, the area supports the learning of traditional forest skills, such as bug hunting, fire safety, and outdoor cooking. Pupils will also have the chance to explore local wildlife, participate in woodland crafts, and develop an understanding of environmental care and conservation.
The initiative has garnered significant support and positive feedback. Headteacher Kevin McConnichie expressed gratitude to all involved, especially the parent council, highlighting the wide range of exciting learning opportunities and the positive response from pupils to these new experiences. The project was primarily driven by two dedicated members of the Brannock Parent Council, Jennifer Bogie and Martin Dean, who envisioned the potential of developing the area into an enriching onsite resource.
