Marcos Vows Swift 2028 Completion for Metro Manila Subway Project

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to expedite and complete the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) by 2028. This declaration came after his inspection of the project's Camp Aguinaldo Station on Wednesday, where he expressed optimism for its inauguration by the end of his term, emphasizing the critical need to accelerate progress for the comfort of commuters.
The extensive underground railway system, stretching 33 kilometers, is designed to feature 17 stations, connecting Valenzuela City to Parañaque City and Pasay City, with a crucial spur line extending to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3. A primary objective of the MMSP is to dramatically reduce travel time between Valenzuela City and NAIA, cutting the current two-hour average journey to a mere 40 minutes.
During his visit, President Marcos Jr. also observed the launch of the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), designated CP103, from the Camp Aguinaldo Station in Quezon City, commencing its advance toward the Ortigas Station in Mandaluyong City. This particular tunnel section, approximately 850 meters in length, navigates beneath the Corinthian Hills and Corinthian Gardens subdivisions, collectively known as Corinthian Properties, situated in Barangay Ugong Norte, Quezon City. As of June 30, the TBM had progressed 281.74 meters from its launching shaft, reaching the Camp Aguinaldo–White Plains boundary, with expectations to arrive at Corinthian Properties by the last quarter of 2025. This alignment affects 69 privately owned land parcels, with tunnel depths varying from 19 to 39 meters, and ongoing efforts are in place to secure subterranean right-of-way acquisitions for several remaining parcels.
Upon its full completion, the MMSP will also include a 30.34-hectare depot located in Valenzuela, which will simultaneously house the Philippine Railway Institute. The 17 stations comprising the MMSP are Valenzuela, Quirino Highway, Tandang Sora, North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, East Avenue, Anonas, Katipunan (Camp Aguinaldo), Ortigas Avenue, Shaw Boulevard, Kalayaan Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Lawton East, Senate-DepEd, NAIA Terminal 3, FTI, and Bicutan. Furthermore, the MMSP is strategically designed for interconnection with other vital rail networks: the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1), Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3), and Metro Rail Transit-Line 7 (MRT7) through the Common Station; the Light Rail Transit-Line 2 (LRT2) at the Anonas Station; and a direct physical run through into the North-South Commuter Railway Extension (NSCR-Ex) at both the FTI and Bicutan Stations, enhancing urban mobility and connectivity across Metro Manila.
