Lucid Air's Infotainment Gets Major Overhaul, Now on Par with Gravity
The Lucid Air is receiving a major infotainment overhaul with the introduction of Air UX 3.0, bringing a faster, more intuitive, and smartphone-like experience. This update, available over-the-air (with a hardware upgrade for some models), enhances navigation, media, user profiles, and vehicle controls. It also improves EV routing and security, aligning the Air's tech with the Gravity SUV's advanced system.
Lucid has announced a significant upgrade to its infotainment system for the Lucid Air, dubbed Air UX 3.0. This new system is designed to provide a faster, more intuitive, and smartphone-like user experience, with major enhancements to navigation, media, user profiles, and vehicle controls. The improvements are inspired by the infotainment experience found in the Lucid Gravity SUV.
Air UX 3.0 will be rolled out to all Lucid Air vehicles as an over-the-air update. However, certain models, specifically 2022 and 2023 Lucid Airs, along with some 2024 versions, will necessitate a $950 hardware upgrade to fully support the new system. The update will be available as part of software version 2.11.0.
A core aspect of Air UX 3.0 is its redesigned interaction model, which emulates smartphone gestures with commands triggered by swiping up, down, left, or right. The Left Cockpit Panel, located on the leftmost section of the Air’s expansive 34-inch curved-glass display, has been reimagined. It now features new cards that highlight frequently used functions, making it easier for drivers to quickly access their most-used apps and features, such as vehicle controls, making calls, accessing saved routes, or finding nearby charging stations. Temporary cards will also appear on the Home screen, which occupies the right-hand portion of the large display, offering quick access to specific features, and swiping these cards opens the full application on the Pilot Panel.
Further enhancing usability, new Quick Controls allow drivers to swipe down from the top of the Pilot Panel, Lucid’s vertically oriented screen on the center console, to access frequently used settings and controls. Lucid emphasizes that the process of moving between the Left Cockpit Panel and the Pilot Panel has been streamlined, aiming to make function access more fluid and reduce the need to navigate through multiple menus.
Addressing previous criticisms regarding user profile management, Air UX 3.0 introduces faster profile switching, grants the primary profile greater control over linked keys, and simplifies the resetting of guest profiles. Security is also bolstered with the inclusion of PIN protection. Additionally, the EV routing and navigation systems have received updates, allowing drivers to customize their routes based on preferred charging networks and adapter compatibility. Users can also specify the minimum desired driving range upon arrival at their destination, providing greater control and peace of mind during their journeys.
