Lizzo Drops Bold New Anthem, Declares Herself '100% That Bitch'!

Pop superstar Lizzo has unveiled her highly anticipated new single, also titled "Bitch," from her upcoming third studio album of the same name. Released on Friday, May 1, the track serves as the first official taste of her new LP, which is scheduled to drop on June 5. The boldly titled song follows the previous single, the smoldering "Don’t Make Me Love U," and notably interpolates singer Meredith Brooks’ iconic 1997 Billboard Hot 100 hit, "Bitch."
Lizzo’s decision to title her album and a lead single with such a provocative word stems from a powerful personal and artistic mission. In a statement detailing the inspiration behind the follow-up to her 2022 album "Special," Lizzo explained, “Reclaiming the word ‘b—h’ is power — it’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence and unapologetic self-love. So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity, like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott. It was only fitting to name my album Bitch because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms and because I am 100% that b—h!” This statement highlights her intent to transform a derogatory term into an emblem of empowerment and self-acceptance.
Adding another layer of intrigue to the album's promotion, a preview of the song shared on Thursday, April 30, featured an unexpected intro from comedian Katt Williams. This snippet included a warning from Williams, “It’s a line, if you cross it, that’s your motherf–kin’ ass!,” a quote taken from his 2024 "Woke Foke" comedy special where he notably defended Lizzo against her critics. Lizzo further amplified Williams’ sentiment by including his follow-up wisdom in the caption for the snippet, stating, “You can be fat, you can be black, but you can’t be no fat black B—H, BITCH drops tonight yall ready?!” The sneak peek also offered a brief listen to the bouncy refrain: “She’s a b—h, She’s a b—h, OK?”
The iconic refrain “She’s a b—h, She’s a b—h, OK?” echoes a phrase Lizzo first introduced in her diamond-selling 2017 single "Truth Hurts," where she famously declared herself “100% that … one.” This consistent thematic thread reinforces her ongoing message of self-assertion and defiance. The album’s provocative nature is further underscored by its cover art, which depicts the singer’s right hand making an explicit gesture, with a miniature version of herself comically substituting for the middle finger, arms raised in triumph.
The upcoming album, according to its Spotify preview page, is set to feature a total of 12 tracks. These include titles such as “A Toast,” “Happy 2 Be,” “Don’t Make Me Love U,” “Bitch,” “She Stole My Man,” “Whose Hair Is This,” “Little Black Cat,” “Sexy Ladies,” “That Grrrl,” “Too Nice,” “Like a Crime,” and “Goodmorning!” Fans are encouraged to check out the official video for the single “Bitch” as they await the full album release.
