Lifeline Extended: NELFUND Gives Students More Time for Loan Applications

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially announced an extension for its Student Loan Application Portal, specifically catering to institutions that formally requested additional time for the upcoming 2025/2026 academic session. This crucial disclosure was made by Akintunde Sawyerr, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, in a statement released on Thursday. The decision underscores NELFUND's adaptive approach to ensure equitable access to its student financing programme.
Mr. Sawyerr emphasized that this extension is strictly applicable to those educational institutions that submitted official requests to NELFUND, indicating a need for more time to enable their eligible students to successfully complete their applications on the NELFUND Student Loan Portal. Concurrently, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Fund’s Director of Strategic Communications, also confirmed this development in a separate statement issued on the same day. Both officials reiterated NELFUND’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that all eligible Nigerian students have the full opportunity to access the student loan programme, thereby removing financial barriers to higher education.
“NELFUND remains committed to ensuring that eligible students across participating institutions have the opportunity to access the student loan programme,” stated Sawyerr, reaffirming the Fund’s dedication. In light of this extension, NELFUND strongly encourages all eligible students enrolled in the affected institutions to promptly utilize this additional window to complete their applications via the official NELFUND portal. The organization further reiterated its core principles of transparency and accountability, along with its mission to deliver sustainable student financing solutions designed to dismantle financial obstacles to tertiary education across Nigeria.
