Leon Thomas's 'Mutt' Soars to Hot 100 Top 10, Inspiring a Generation

Leon Thomas's 2024 hit single, “Mutt,” has achieved a significant milestone by finally reaching the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, completing a remarkable yearlong journey. The song's ascent to the No. 10 spot took precisely 38 chart weeks, positioning it as the third-longest trip to the top 10 in the all-genre songs tally’s 67-year history. This achievement marks a personal triumph for Thomas, as it is his first top 10 hit as a recording artist.
Beyond his success as a vocalist, Thomas is also recognized for his contributions as a writer and producer, having previously earned three other top 10 hits in these capacities. These include Drake’s “In the Bible,” featuring Lil Durk and Givēon, which reached No. 7 in 2021, and “Love All,” featuring Jay-Z, which peaked at No. 10, also in 2021. More recently, he contributed to SZA’s “Snooze,” which soared to No. 2 in 2023, further solidifying his versatile talent in the music industry.
Expressing his gratitude, Thomas took to Instagram on Monday, October 27, to thank his supporters, or “PHOLKS,” stating, “This would not have been possible without my PHOLKS, so thank you to every single one of you who has made this possible and let this be a sign to keep on working and chase your dreams!” His post featured a custom graphic depicting him performing on stage with his guitar, alongside the Hot 100 top 10 graphic for the chart dated November 1.
This celebratory news arrived just three days after the release of Thomas’s funk-focused seven-song EP, also titled “PHOLKS.” Additionally, Thomas is gearing up for his headlining “Mutts Don’t Heel Tour,” which is scheduled to commence on Thursday, October 30, at Dallas’ House of Blues. The extensive tour will see him perform across the United States, Europe, and Australia, concluding on April 19 at Perth’s Metro City.
Further testament to his burgeoning career, Leon Thomas is slated to receive the prestigious Breakthrough of the Year Award at Billboard‘s 2025 R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players event, highlighting his significant impact and rapid rise within the music scene.
