Lenskart Takes on Tech Giants, Enters Smart Glasses Arena Against Apple Vision and Ray-Ban Meta
Lenskart is set to launch its “B by Lenskart Smart Glasses” in the fourth quarter of the current financial year, with a market release anticipated by March 2026. This move positions the company in a competitive landscape alongside tech giants such as Apple, Meta, and Alibaba, who have already ventured into the smart eyewear market. Lenskart CEO Peyush Bansal announced the upcoming product in a letter to shareholders during the company's Q2 results, highlighting its potential to establish India as a leader in the next wave of consumer technology.
The “B by Lenskart Smart Glasses” are designed to redefine the intersection of vision and technology. Lenskart is adopting a comprehensive full-stack approach, mirroring its vertically integrated model for prescription eyewear. This includes designing the hardware, developing the software, and creating the mobile app entirely in-house. The smart glasses will be powered by advanced AI and Snapdragon technology, specifically utilizing Google Gemini for AI capabilities and Qualcomm's AR1 chip for their foundation. A key aspect of this in-house development strategy is to gain complete control over the data ecosystem, ensuring a robust and integrated user experience.
The first version of these smart glasses is expected to offer a range of innovative features. These include convenient UPI payment functionality, comprehensive health monitoring with food logging and personalized recommendations, and the ability to capture photos and videos. Users will also benefit from real-time object scanning and translation features, alongside personalized recommendations tailored to their usage. To foster rapid expansion of functionality, Lenskart has extended an invitation to developers to collaborate and build additional features for the 'B Smart glasses' platform.
By commercializing AI-driven eyewear, Lenskart distinguishes itself as one of the first Indian consumer tech brands to enter this advanced segment. It will directly compete with established products like Meta-Ray-Ban Smart Glasses, Apple Vision Pro, and Amazon Echo Frames. Notably, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. recently launched its own Qwen AI-powered smart glasses, equipped with cameras, bone conduction microphones, and 24-hour swappable batteries, primarily targeting the Chinese market. While Lenskart has not yet announced an official price for its smart glasses, reports suggest they will be strategically priced to be accessible and suitable for Indian users.
