Legal Earthquake: Kwara Slams 20-Count Charge Against Saraki, Ahmed Over Offa Robbery!

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed are scheduled to be arraigned on June 4, following a 20-count charge filed by the Kwara State Government. The legal proceedings are linked to the April 2018 Offa robbery incident and will take place before Justice Haleemah Salman of the Kwara State High Court. In addition to Saraki and Ahmed, Yusuf Abdulwahab and Alabi Olalekan are also named as defendants in the case.
The charge, officially dated April 9, was submitted by the Attorney-General of Kwara State, Ibrahim Sulyman. The state government has accused the defendants of serious offences, including conspiracy, culpable homicide, and other related crimes that are connected to the tragic robbery that occurred in Offa in April 2018. This legal action follows a significant decision by the Court of Appeal, which previously upheld the conviction of the main suspects involved in the case, prominently including Ayo Akinnibosun.
According to statements made by the prosecution, Akinnibosun, during his trial, provided information that allegedly linked the robbery attack to a broader political network. The Kwara State government has further alleged that the defendants provided support and armed individuals who were directly involved in the robbery. Moreover, the prosecution claimed that some suspects in the case were observed in the presence of Mr. Saraki during a visit to Offa that took place after the incident. Critical evidence, including vehicles and various other items connected to the case, was reportedly recovered from government facilities within Kwara State back in 2018, and these items have since been utilized as evidence in court.
Both former political leaders have vehemently denied the allegations leveled against them. Mr. Saraki has stated that the case is an intentional effort aimed at damaging his reputation and undermining his political career. Similarly, Mr. Ahmed has also denied any involvement in the incident, asserting that the claims made against him are entirely untrue.
