Last-Second Heroics: Deonte Banks Interception Secures Thrilling Giants Victory Over Cardinals

The New York Giants secured a thrilling 36-24 victory over the Arizona Cardinals at MetLife Stadium, capping a dramatic contest with a walk-off defensive touchdown.

The game saw the full spectrum of quarterback Jameis Winston's play, but it was rookie cornerback Deonte Banks who emerged as the day's ultimate hero, redeeming an earlier pass interference penalty with a game-ending 98-yard interception return for a touchdown as time expired.

This victory improved the Giants' record to 3-1, while the Cardinals fell to 1-3.

Winston, in his second consecutive start, led the offense on a rollercoaster ride that elicited both cheers and boos from the crowd. He completed 18 of 29 passes for 250 yards and threw three crucial touchdown passes to Malachi Fields, Malik Nabers, and Theo Johnson.

Fields' 12-yard reception marked his first career touchdown and ended the Giants' drought of 26 straight drives without a score, spanning 10 quarters. Nabers, returning from knee surgery, recorded his first touchdown since Week Two last season in Dallas and his first 100-yard game of the season, catching six passes for 112 yards.

Despite these offensive highlights, Winston also exhibited his propensity for turnovers, throwing two interceptions.

One interception by Denzel Burke at the end of the first half led to a 60-yard field goal by Chad Ryland for the Cardinals, while another by Budda Baker early in the third quarter resulted in an Elijah Higgins touchdown.

The Giants' defense played a pivotal role throughout the game, delivering a strong performance marked by their first multi-sack game of the season with two sacks, and significantly improved pressure on Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Rookie linebacker Arvell Reese was particularly impactful, contributing a hit on Brissett that forced an interception by Greg Newsome, and securing his first NFL takeaway with an interception in the second quarter.

Reese also made a crucial play by deflecting a pass at the line of scrimmage, helping to set up a defensive stop that allowed the offense to find its rhythm.

The game started with the Cardinals taking an early lead, scoring touchdowns on their first two drives, including a 22-yard run by Tyler Allgeier. The Giants, in contrast, settled for field goals on their initial two possessions, with Zvada converting from 39 and 50 yards.

However, the offense eventually sparked to life, with Winston connecting with Fields and then Nabers for touchdowns, taking a 19-14 lead. The defense continued to make crucial plays in the fourth quarter. After a fumble by Najee Harris in Cardinals' territory, they forced a three-and-out, with Abdul Carter delivering consecutive quarterback hits.

Although the Giants' offense couldn't capitalize immediately, Jordan Stout's 47-yard punt pinned the Cardinals deep at their 3-yard line. Another defensive three-and-out followed, giving the Giants excellent field position. Zvada added a 52-yard field goal with 2:11 remaining, extending the lead and providing a crucial cushion.

The dramatic conclusion unfolded with the Cardinals at the Giants' 4-yard line, poised to score, after Banks' pass interference penalty on Marvin Harrison Jr. With just 27 seconds left, the Giants' defense held strong, stopping Arizona on three straight plays.

On fourth down, Deonte Banks intercepted Jacoby Brissett and ran an astounding 98 yards for the game-sealing touchdown as time expired, marking the second consecutive week the defense secured a win with a takeaway.
