Lakers Strengthen Front Office with Appointment of Rohan Ramadas as Assistant GM
The Los Angeles Lakers have appointed Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager, adding a respected strategist and analytics specialist to the franchise's basketball operations department.
Ramadas will report directly to president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka, with responsibilities focused on salary cap management, strategic planning, analytics and data-driven decision-making.
The appointment signals the Lakers' commitment to expanding their front-office expertise as the franchise looks to build on recent success and strengthen its long-term roster strategy.
Before joining the Lakers, Ramadas spent several years with the New Orleans Pelicans, where he served as vice president of strategy and operations. During his time with the organization, he became known for applying advanced analytics and artificial intelligence tools to basketball operations.
His unconventional path to the NBA has also attracted attention. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Ramadas spent more than a decade working at the Aerospace Corporation before transitioning into professional basketball.
His expertise in data science and predictive modeling earned him a reputation as a "rocket scientist" within league circles. Those skills are expected to play a key role in helping the Lakers navigate salary cap decisions, roster construction and player evaluation.
The move is part of a broader effort by the Lakers to enhance their basketball operations department. Team officials have reportedly conducted multiple interviews in recent months as they seek to expand the support structure around Pelinka.
In addition to Ramadas, the franchise is expected to appoint another assistant general manager who will focus on scouting, player evaluation and development. That role will oversee both professional and amateur talent assessment.
The Lakers are also exploring ways to integrate resources made available through ownership changes and increased collaboration with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, which shares ownership ties through businessman Mark Walter.
Following a successful 50-win season, the Lakers appear focused on modernizing their decision-making process, blending traditional scouting with advanced analytics as they prepare for the future.
With Ramadas now joining the front office, the franchise hopes his experience and analytical approach can help strengthen its competitive edge in an increasingly data-driven NBA landscape.
