Kourtney Kardashian's Cellulite Pill Debacle: Experts Warn of 'Dangerous Fad'

Kourtney Kardashian Barker's supplement brand, Lemme, launched in September 2022 with the aim of creating “science-backed” vitamins that consumers would “look forward to taking every day.” Known as the most health-conscious of the Kar-Jenner sisters, Kourtney's interest in wellness reportedly stemmed from the birth of her eldest son, Mason Disick. However, nearly two years into its operation, Lemme has faced significant backlash and criticism from fans, medical professionals, and plastic surgeons over several of its products, particularly those marketed for weight loss and body image concerns, with many accusing the brand of exploiting insecurities and lacking scientific validation.
The most recent product to draw ire is Lemme GLP-1 Daily, an “Ozempic-style” weight-loss supplement. Ozempic, originally a diabetes medicine, gained widespread attention in 2022 as a weight loss aid. It works as a weekly injection containing a synthetic version of the GLP-1 hormone, which slows digestion, dulls hunger pangs, and aids in shedding body weight. While Kourtney's brand hasn't explicitly compared its product to Ozempic, it promoted an article discussing her desire to be “in on the Ozempic boom.” Lemme's GLP-1 Daily aims to naturally increase levels of the GLP-1 hormone using lemon and saffron extracts, marketing itself as a “GLP-1 solution without the side effects” of the injectable drug. Priced at £69 for a one-time purchase or £55.23 for a monthly subscription, the supplement is designed to “reduce body weight, visceral fat, and hip and waist circumference.”
Despite these claims, critics, including fans and medical experts, have been quick to challenge the efficacy and marketing tactics of GLP-1 Daily. Plastic surgeon Naveen Cavale emphasized that while the supplement is marketed as a natural alternative, it lacks the “scientifically proven impact as injectable medications like Ozempic.” He stated that Ozempic contains semaglutide, a rigorously tested GLP-1 receptor, which is absent in Lemme's offering. Furthermore, if the supplement contained actual GLP-1, it would be classified as a drug, not a supplement. Critics argue there is “little to no clinical evidence to support significant weight loss from these ingredients,” labeling the marketing as a “facade” and “false marketing” that exploits those seeking quick-fix solutions.
Another product, Lemme Smooth, launched to combat cellulite, has also garnered strong condemnation. Marketed with claims of reducing cellulite in just 28 days using ingredients like French Cantaloupe Melon (SOD B Dimpless), this daily tablet was quickly dismissed as a “fad” by Mr. Naveen Cavale. He stressed that cellulite is a common, harmless, and natural skin condition affecting the majority of women, and “these so-called anti-cellulite pills lack scientific backing and have not demonstrated significant, long-lasting results in clinical trials.” Cavale encouraged a holistic approach focusing on a balanced diet, regular exercise, and positive body image instead of “dubious products.”
Earlier controversies also plagued Lemme, specifically regarding its “vagina gummies” called Lemme Purr. These gummies were marketed to boost vaginal health and alter its taste, supposedly using “pineapple and Vitamin C and probiotics.” However, gynecologist Dr. Jen Gunter, author of “The Vagina Bible,” fiercely criticized the product. She stated that “Anyone who suggests that your vagina isn't fresh or needs an improved taste is a misogynist and awful person. And yes, that includes you Kourtney Kardashian and your Lemme grift,” also disputing the notion that pineapple affects bodily fluid taste.
A recurring point of concern for all these products is the lack of evaluation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Lemme's small print clearly states, “This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.” Experts highlight that unlike FDA-approved drugs which undergo thorough testing for safety and efficacy, supplements often lack such rigorous scrutiny. This absence of external validation fuels skepticism regarding Lemme's ability to deliver its promised results.
Plastic surgeon Naveen Cavale has been particularly outspoken, accusing Kourtney of “cashing in” on young women struggling with body image. He warns that such unproven supplements can “create false hope while offering little in terms of real results,” potentially leading to “frustration, feelings of failure and worsened body image issues” for users, and even intensifying “anxiety, stress and depression.” Many social media users echoed this sentiment, viewing the products as a “cash grab” that preys on societal pressures for women to conform to unrealistic body standards often promoted by celebrities.
In essence, while Kourtney Kardashian launched Lemme with an image of promoting wellness and “science-backed” solutions, the brand has been consistently challenged for its marketing claims, lack of rigorous scientific validation for significant results, and the perceived exploitation of deeply personal insecurities. The controversies surrounding GLP-1 Daily, Lemme Smooth, and Lemme Purr underscore a broader debate about celebrity-backed health products and their responsibility to consumers.
