Kogi Youths Rally Against Alleged 'Third-Term Plot' Scandal

Youths from Kogi East have collectively voiced a stern warning to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo regarding any potential endorsement of an alleged third-term agenda for politicians within the senatorial district. This significant caution was articulated during a comprehensive stakeholders' meeting held in Anyigba, Kogi State, where participants expressed deep concern that such a political maneuver could severely jeopardize the electoral prospects of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the meeting, the gathering vehemently accused certain political figures of attempting to impose candidates who are perceived as detached from the grassroots. Ahmed Labaran, who serves as the President of the Kogi East Youth Stakeholders, emphasized the detrimental impact of continuously recycling leaders who are allegedly inaccessible and lack a people-oriented approach. He argued that this practice would inevitably erode the party’s vital support base across the district, making it difficult for the APC to secure future electoral victories.
Labaran specifically implored Governor Ododo to uphold the principles of internal democracy by ensuring a primary election process that is both transparent and credible. This, he asserted, would empower legitimate party members and the broader populace to freely select their preferred candidates, thereby strengthening the party's democratic foundations. He further issued a cautionary note against any external interference in Kogi politics, staunchly advocating for loyal party members who have dedicated themselves to the APC's growth to be granted equitable opportunities to contest. He underscored this point by stating, "The people should decide who represents them, not individuals seeking to impose candidates from outside the state."
Echoing these sentiments, Okeme Muhammad, a prominent leader of the FAWWAS for Men Organisation, stressed the importance of the party rallying behind its committed members. Muhammad highlighted that such members possess an intrinsic understanding of the people's needs and have demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the APC's established structure.
The collective message from the stakeholders was clear: any attempt to bypass internal democratic processes or to force unpopular candidates upon the electorate could have dire consequences for the APC’s standing and success in the Kogi East senatorial district. They believe that upholding democratic integrity and ensuring candidate legitimacy are crucial for maintaining public trust and the party's electoral viability.
