Fans React Strongly to Dramatic Ending of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’

The first season closed with Episode 6,“The Morrow,” and honestly? It left Westeros fans sitting in their feelings.

Even with just six episodes, the finale carefully unpacks the aftermath of the brutal Trial of Seven, especially the devastating death of Baelor Targaryen (played by Bertie Carvel).

The political and emotional ripple effects hit hard.

While Dunk (Peter Claffey) remains the heart of the series, it’s Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) who quietly steals this episode.

Through him, we see the cracks forming inside House Targaryen — and maybe even the early whispers of the madness that will define the dynasty.

Unlike the chaos of Episode 5, “The Morrow” slows things down. It leans into reflection:

• Dunk wrestling with guilt over Baelor’s death

• Questions about fate, sacrifice, and whether loyalty always demands blood

• Subtle hints about the origins of Targaryen instability

• Setups that clearly point toward a bigger, darker Season 2

After his near-fatal injuries, Dunk is visited by Lyonel Baratheon (Daniel Ings), who urges him to come to Storm’s End despite the maester’s grim outlook.

Dunk believes tragedy follows him.

Lyonel, however, frames Baelor’s death as part of a larger, necessary design — a very Westerosi way of coping.

Fans are split — some love the quieter, character-driven finale, while others wanted more spectacle. But most agree on one thing: the show understands Westeros.

It knows that sometimes the real battles happen in guilt, legacy, and duty — not just on the battlefield.
