ODM Declares 2027 Independence from UDA, But Internal Tensions Tell a Different Story

Kenya's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) held a Youth Convention in Nairobi, declaring it will contest the 2027 General Election independently — with or without zoning deals.

Party elections director Junet Mohammed made clear: ODM is not a "briefcase" operation, all political support must flow through the party.

But Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa struck a different tone, arguing that ODM–UDA cooperation could reshape Kenya's political landscape.

Youth leaders pushed back on direct nominations, demanding competitive primaries. They also chose political mobilisation over planned street protests.

Party leader Oburu Odinga launched an online portal for aspirants to apply for electoral seats, promising free and fair nominations.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga urged young people to register to vote — and revealed Sh2 billion has been allocated to compensate families affected by past protests.
