Kano Political Storm: Assembly Vehemently Denies Impeachment Plot Against Deputy Governor Gwarzo

The Kano State House of Assembly has emphatically refuted reports suggesting an ongoing plan to impeach the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo. Addressing journalists in Kano on Saturday, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the spokesperson for the House, dismissed these claims as entirely unfounded and devoid of any factual basis.
“There is absolutely no motion or initiative within the House to remove the Deputy Governor,” Shawai stated, underscoring that the allegations were false and purposefully intended to generate unnecessary tension and instability within the state. He strongly advised the public to disregard these reports, reiterating that the Deputy Governor continues to fulfill his duties with the unwavering support of the legislative body.
Shawai further cautioned media organizations and the general public on the critical importance of verifying information before its dissemination, highlighting that inaccurate reporting could significantly undermine political stability. He affirmed that the House remains steadfastly committed to its constitutional responsibilities, which include diligent lawmaking and robust oversight, rather than engaging in speculative political maneuvering. “Our paramount priority is to ensure good governance and effectively serve the people of Kano, not to propagate baseless rumors,” he added.
This crucial clarification from the House of Assembly comes in the wake of recent public comments made by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya. During a radio interview, Waiya had publicly called for the Deputy Governor’s resignation, citing alleged political differences. The denial also resonates within a broader Nigerian political landscape where similar allegations of impeachment plots and subsequent denials have surfaced in various states, as seen in cases involving the Bayelsa Deputy Governor suing the Assembly, calls from the South-South PDP to drop an impeachment plot against the Edo Governor's Deputy, and the Ondo Assembly suspending a Deputy Governor's impeachment process.
