K-Pop Kings Reign Supreme: BTS Scores Historic 7th No. 1 Album

BTS has once again made history on the Billboard 200 albums chart, with their reunited group's latest album, “ARIRANG,” debuting at No. 1 on the chart dated April 4, 2026. This achievement marks their seventh chart-topping album, further solidifying their status in the music industry. “ARIRANG” opened with an impressive 641,000 equivalent album units, setting a new record for the largest week for an album by a group since Billboard began measuring by units in December 2014.

The album's robust performance was significantly driven by pure album sales, accounting for 532,000 units. This figure represents the biggest sales week for an album by a group in over a decade. In the context of overall album performances, “ARIRANG” claims the biggest week for an album by units earned since Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” debuted at No. 1 with an historic 4.002 million units on the Oct. 18, 2025-dated chart. Similarly, its pure album sales mark the biggest sales week for any album since “Showgirl” started with 3.48 million copies sold. The last group to achieve a larger sales week was One Direction, with “Midnight Memories” selling 547,000 copies on the Dec. 14, 2013-dated chart.

Breaking down “ARIRANG’s” 641,000 equivalent album units, 532,000 were pure album sales, earning it the No. 1 spot on the Top Album Sales chart. Streaming Equivalent Album (SEA) units contributed 95,000, translating to 99.10 million on-demand official streams of the album’s songs, marking BTS’ biggest streaming week ever for an album and securing the No. 1 position on Top Streaming Albums. The remaining units were Track Equivalent Albums (TEA).

A major factor in “ARIRANG’s” success was its physical sales, which totaled 516,000. This was significantly bolstered by its availability across 17 vinyl variants and nine CD editions, all featuring the same tracklist but including collectible items such as photocards, stickers, and posters. Vinyl sales alone accounted for 208,000 units, representing BTS’ best sales week on vinyl and the largest by a group in the modern era (since Luminate began electronically tracking sales in 1991). It also ranks as the sixth-largest vinyl sales week for an album in the modern era, with Taylor Swift holding the top five spots. The modern era record for vinyl sales belongs to “Showgirl” with 1.334 million units.

The album’s release strategy included an announcement on January 1, 2026, with the title "ARIRANG" revealed on January 16. The set was officially released on March 20, accompanied by the global live Netflix special "BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG" on March 21. The lead single, “SWIM,” and its music video premiered simultaneously with the album. Later in the release week, BTS performed on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 25 and 26. Looking ahead, the BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’ is scheduled to launch on April 9 in Goyang, South Korea, reaching the United States on April 25 in Tampa, Florida, before continuing through the U.S. and Mexico until May 28, and then heading overseas. The tour will return to the U.S. on August 1 and conclude its U.S./Canada dates on September 6 in Inglewood, California.

Meanwhile, Luke Combs secured his seventh top 10-charted album on the Billboard 200, as “The Way I Am” debuted at No. 2, earning 101,000 equivalent album units. Of these, SEA units comprised 76,000 (equaling 77.66 million on-demand official streams), album sales totaled 23,000, and TEA units made up the remainder. The album was preceded by seven charted hits on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, with three, "Back in the Saddle," "Sleepless in a Hotel," and "Be by You," reaching the top 10 on both Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, with "Back in the Saddle" topping the latter for two weeks. This adds to Combs' previous top 10 entries: "Fathers & Sons" (No. 6, 2024), "Gettin’ Old" (No. 4, 2023), "Growin’ Up" (No. 2, 2022), "What You See Is What You Get" (No. 1, 2019), "The Prequel" (No. 4, 2019), and "This One’s for You" (No. 4, 2018).

“ARIRANG” and “The Way I Am” were the only new entries in the top 10 on the latest Billboard 200. Other notable albums included Morgan Wallen’s “I’m the Problem” (falling 2-3 with 76,000 units), Harry Styles’ “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.” (slipping 1-4 with 64,000 units), Don Toliver’s “Octane” (rising 6-5 with 55,000 units), Olivia Dean’s “The Art of Loving” (climbing 7-6 with 54,000 units), Bad Bunny’s “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” (falling 5-7 with 53,000 units), Bruno Mars’ “The Romantic” (non-mover at No. 8 with 45,000 units), Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” (rising 12-9 with 38,000 units), and the “KPop Demon Hunters” soundtrack (steady at No. 10 with 36,000 units).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, compiled by Luminate, an independent data provider. Equivalent album units comprise album sales, Track Equivalent Albums (TEA), and Streaming Equivalent Albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 2,500 ad-supported or 1,000 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams. Luminate conducts thorough reviews and authentication of all data submissions, removing suspicious or unverifiable data before final chart calculations are published. The full April 4, 2026-dated chart will be posted on Billboard’s website on March 31, with further updates available by following @billboard and @billboardcharts on X and Instagram.
