J. Cole Drops Surprise 'Birthday Blizzard '26' EP, Unleashes 4 New Freestyles!

Just hours before celebrating his 41st birthday, Acclaimed Rapper J.Cole delighted fans with the release of a new four-track freestyle EP.
Hosted by DJ Clue, the extended play, titled Birthday Blizzard ’26, became available on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, for purchase via Cole’s official website for as little as $1. The EP features four unique tracks: “Bronx Zoo Freestyle,” “Golden Goose,” “Winter Storm,” and “99 Build Freestyle,” offering fresh lyrical showcases from the Dreamville artist.
Among the standout moments, Cole raps effortlessly over the classic Stevie J-produced beat from Diddy’s Victory, originally featuring The Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes.
This choice serves both as a tribute to hip-hop classics and a platform for Cole to demonstrate his lyrical dexterity in a reimagined soundscape.
Reflections and Reconciliation
One of the freestyles appears to address Cole’s public apology to fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar.
The apology followed Cole’s initial diss toward Lamar on the track 7 Minute Drill from his Might Delete Later mixtape.
Cole later removed the song from streaming platforms and publicly apologized at the Dreamville Festival in April 2024.
In the new freestyle, Cole reflects on the personal and professional impact of this apology, rapping: “I used to be top, see, the apology dropped me way out of the top three, no problem, I’m probably my best when they doubt me. The top ain’t really what I thought it would be, so I jumped off and landed back at the bottom and restarted at a level where I wasn’t regarded as much, just to climb past them again and tell them all to keep up.”
This introspective element demonstrates Cole’s continued commitment to growth, reflection, and authenticity in his music.
Building Momentum for
The Fall-Off
Fans are interpreting Birthday Blizzard ’26 as a strategic teaser for J. Cole’s highly anticipated album, The Fall-Off, set to release on February 6, 2026.
Earlier this month, Cole previewed the project with the single Disc 2 Track 2, which presented his life story in reverse, showcasing his narrative creativity and innovative approach to storytelling.
Cole’s previous full-length album, The Off-Season (May 2021), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, earning 282,000 album-equivalent units and solidifying his status as one of hip-hop’s most consistent and critically acclaimed artists.
With this surprise EP, fans are primed and excited for the next chapter in J. Cole’s discography.
