IT's Back! Welcome to Derry's Horrifying Debut Sends Shivers, Dominates Streaming

Stephen King's universe continues to expand its reach into the horror genre, with HBO Max's latest offering, It: Welcome to Derry, quickly becoming a global sensation. Created by IT movie veterans Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, the prequel series has already soared to the top of the streamer’s charts, captivating audiences alongside the acclaimed IT film franchise.
The original IT film, directed by Andy Muschietti in 2017, kicked off the modern adaptation of King's iconic story. It introduced viewers to the Losers Club as they confronted their deepest fears to defeat the malevolent clown Pennywise, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. The movie was a massive commercial success, grossing $704.2 million worldwide against a budget of $35–40 million, and was lauded for its terrors and jump scares, earning an 85 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Its sequel, IT: Chapter Two, released 27 years after the first film, saw the adult Losers Club return to Derry to fulfill their promise and vanquish Pennywise once and for all. While it garnered mixed reviews from critics (62 percent Rotten Tomatoes) it still resonated with audiences (78 percent Rotten Tomatoes) and achieved a global gross of $473.1 million.
It: Welcome to Derry serves as a chilling prequel, transporting viewers back to 1962 Derry, a period marked by the mysterious disappearance of a young boy just as a new family arrives in the infamous town. With only two episodes released, the series has already enchanted audiences with its unfolding mystery, securing a 78 percent Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and an 80 percent audience score. The show is packed with Easter Eggs, promising a deeper exploration of Pennywise's extensive body count.
