Immortal Mayhem Unleashed! Henry Cavill's 'Highlander' Reboot Drops First Gnarly Footage and Details

The year 2026 is poised to be a landmark period for actor Henry Cavill, commencing with the highly anticipated release of the action film "In The Grey." Directed by Guy Ritchie, this movie, which co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González, wrapped filming over two years ago. Initially confirmed for an April premiere this year, it was later rescheduled to May 15, where it now sits comfortably. Following this, Cavill is set to appear in "Voltron," a live-action remake of the iconic 80s action show. Written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, "Voltron" will feature Cavill alongside Sterling K. Brown.
However, the most significant project in Henry Cavill's immediate future is undoubtedly the "Highlander" reboot. This ambitious film is under the direction of Chad Stahelski, renowned for helming all four "John Wick" movies, promising his signature style of brutal action sequences. Filming for "Highlander" has been underway for months across locations including Poland, the Scottish Highlands, and Hong Kong. Earlier this year, Cavill shared initial glimpses from the set, and Amazon MGM further heightened anticipation at CinemaCon by presenting the first official footage from the film.
The CinemaCon presentation offered attendees an exclusive look at behind-the-scenes footage and intense action sequences that strongly echoed Stahelski's "John Wick" films. Highlights included a neon-drenched fight at a crowded rave, along with numerous sword fights and motorcycle chases. Cavill, who steps into the legendary role of Connor MacLeod, appeared in a first-look clip, demonstrating his prowess as the character. MacLeod is revealed to be an immortal warrior born in 1518, a 16th-century Scottish swordsman destined to participate in "The Gathering," a deadly contest where immortal fighters battle across generations until only one remains to claim a mysterious prize. Director Chad Stahelski also expressed his deep personal connection to the "Highlander" film, having been a fan since childhood, and shared his intent to bring the iconic story to a modern audience while putting his own stamp on the classic narrative.
The reboot boasts a stellar cast alongside Cavill. Russell Crowe has been tapped to portray Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, a role originally brought to life by Sean Connery in the 1986 film, with Crowe confirming he will adopt the character's signature Spanish accent. Dave Bautista takes on the formidable role of The Kurgan, the brutal barbarian first played by Clancy Brown in the original movie. Other prominent cast members include Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Marisa Abela, Jeremy Irons, and Max Zhang. The script for the film was written by Michael Finch, with earlier drafts contributed by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson.
"Highlander" promises a blend of the adrenaline-pumping action familiar to fans of Stahelski's work, augmented with rich fantasy and sci-fi elements. The original 1986 "Highlander" movie starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod and spawned several sequels, an animated TV series, and spinoff novels, though the sequels largely received negative reviews. Cavill's reboot marks the franchise's return to the big screen for the first time since "Highlander: Endgame" in 2000. With its powerful cast and acclaimed director, "Highlander" is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited cinematic events of the coming years, positioning 2026 as a pivotal year for Henry Cavill's career.
