IGP Unleashes Justice: Officers Face Dismissal Over Shocking Delta Extra-Judicial Killing
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has taken decisive action by ordering the immediate dismissal and subsequent prosecution of ASP Nuhu Usman. This order comes in the wake of a fatal shooting incident that occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State, which tragically resulted in the death of Mr. Mene Ogidi.
A statement released by the Force Spokesperson, DCP Anthony Placid, confirmed that all officers connected to the incident were promptly withdrawn from the Delta State Command. They were subsequently transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja to undergo expedited disciplinary proceedings. The Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), alongside other internal disciplinary processes, meticulously reviewed the case.
The findings of the FDC established unequivocally that ASP Nuhu Usman, the principal officer involved, acted in gross violation of Force Order 237 and other existing regulations governing the use of firearms. His actions were deemed unlawful, unprofessional, and a profound betrayal of the oath to protect life and uphold the law. Consequently, the FDC recommended the immediate dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and any other officers found culpable in the incident. The Inspector General of Police has since approved these recommendations and forwarded them to the Police Service Commission for official ratification, in adherence to due process.
Upon the conclusion of these administrative procedures, the affected officers will be handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities to face prosecution for their roles in the extrajudicial shooting. The Inspector General of Police has forcefully reiterated the Nigeria Police Force's zero-tolerance stance on extra-judicial actions and any abuse of power, emphasizing that no uniform bestows the right to take a life outside the provisions of the law. Any officer found to be in violation of this fundamental principle will face the full weight of both disciplinary and legal consequences.
IGP Disu also extended his deepest and most solemn condolences to the family of the deceased, Mr. Mene Ogidi. He acknowledged the immense pain and loss suffered by the family and assured them that this tragic incident would not be treated lightly. The Force is fully committed to ensuring that justice is not only served but is also visibly served, thereby reinforcing public confidence and institutional accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
