A tragic head-on collision on the Harare-Chirundu road on Thursday afternoon resulted in the deaths of six individuals. The fatal accident occurred just outside Chinhoyi, in Mashonaland West Province, specifically at the 110-kilometre peg near the Mashonaland West Provincial Heroes Acre, a few kilometres from the Chinhoyi central business district.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, officially confirmed the devastating incident. Commissioner Nyathi stated, "The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred this afternoon on July 16, 2026, at the 110 kilometre peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road near Heroes Acre, in which six people were killed."

While the number of fatalities was confirmed, police authorities indicated that the precise number of victims injured in the crash was still being ascertained.
