Hollywood Heavyweight George Clooney Clashes with Trump in Fiery Social Media Exchange

Actor George Clooney has responded to recent social media posts by former President Donald Trump, suggesting that the upcoming midterm elections could steer the country in a more favorable direction. Trump had taken to Truth Social on New Year's Eve to comment on Clooney’s recent decision to acquire French citizenship, hailing it as “Good News!” and referencing the movie star’s 2024 op-ed urging former President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. Trump’s post also contained a stream-of-consciousness critique of Clooney's political involvement, stating, “Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
In response, Clooney, a prominent Hollywood critic of Trump, echoed the former president’s own slogan. “I totally agree with the current president,” Clooney stated. “We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November.” This statement implies Clooney’s belief that the Democratic Party could regain control of the House and potentially the Senate in the forthcoming elections.
Clooney, his wife Amal Clooney, and their two children have all been granted French citizenship. The actor has publicly lauded France's privacy laws, citing their superior protections against paparazzi seeking to photograph his children as a key reason for the move.
In a recent Variety cover story, Clooney also delved into his past relationship with Donald Trump. “I knew him very well,” Clooney recalled. “He used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon. I’d see him out at clubs and at restaurants. He’s a big goofball. Well, he was. That all changed.”
Furthermore, Clooney criticized news networks such as ABC and CBS for their handling of lawsuits filed by the former president. He argued that if these networks “had challenged those lawsuits and said, ‘Go fuck yourself,’ we wouldn’t be where we are in the country. That’s simply the truth.”
