Henry Cavill Unleashed! First Look at 'Highlander' Reboot by 'John Wick' Director Promises Epic Swordplay

Action star Henry Cavill is set to lead the highly anticipated "Highlander" reboot, a project helmed by "John Wick" filmmaker Chad Stahelski. Cavill recently provided a first look at the film through two images shared on Instagram, expressing his excitement about the journey to bring this story to life. "Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I'll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy," Cavill wrote.
Cavill's involvement in the "Highlander" reboot was first announced in 2021, and production has finally commenced. While the initial photos do not reveal extensive details, they hint at a visual style and tone reminiscent of Keanu Reeves' critically acclaimed "John Wick" series, which was also directed by Stahelski. One image depicts Cavill wielding a substantial sword, suggesting the film will be a globe-trotting epic based on the varied locations implied.
The production faced some delays late last year when Cavill sustained an injury during the film's preparation phase. The reboot boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including notable actors such as Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang. The script for the film was penned by Michael Finch, with earlier drafts contributed by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson.
The new "Highlander" aims to revitalize the franchise that began with the original 1986 film. That classic starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish warrior born in the 16th century. Sean Connery portrayed Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, another immortal who served as Connor's mentor, while Clancy Brown played The Kurgan, the primary antagonist who hunted Connor in 1980s New York City.
The original film's success led to a sequel in 1991 featuring Lambert and Connery, and the franchise further expanded into numerous additional sequels, television series, and spinoff novels, establishing a significant legacy that the reboot now seeks to continue.
