Heartbreak for Kings: Maxime Raynaud Suffers Apparent Serious Knee Injury!
Second-year center Maxime Raynaud of the Sacramento Kings suffered what appears to be a serious right knee injury during a preseason game. The incident led to immediate medical attention and deep concern within the team, with fears he could be out for the foreseeable future. Raynaud, a key frontcourt player, is scheduled for an MRI to assess the damage.
The Sacramento Kings experienced a significant concern during their preseason game against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night, as second-year center Maxime Raynaud sustained what appeared to be a serious right knee injury. The incident unfolded late in the first half when Raynaud was in the process of setting a screen for rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr., with Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors positioned to defend. In the ensuing collision, Raynaud took contact to the outside of his right knee, immediately reacting with a yell of pain and collapsing to the court.
The severity of the situation became evident very quickly. Sacramento's coach, Doug Christie, promptly called a timeout and walked out to the center of the floor to check on Raynaud, who had his hands covering his face. As his teammates gathered around him, team trainers called for an EMT with a wheelchair to assist Raynaud off the court and transport him to the locker room for immediate medical assessment. He spent the entire halftime period undergoing tests for the injury at Chase Center.
The Kings officially ruled Raynaud out of the game with a right knee injury early in the third quarter. At that point, a visibly dispirited Raynaud was seen being wheeled from the X-ray room back to the area outside the visitors' locker room. During this time, Kings general manager Scott Perry and team owner Vivek Ranadive both visited him, with Ranadive offering a comforting hug. Team sources later confirmed that there was a growing fear within the organization that they had potentially lost their young center for the foreseeable future. An official update on Raynaud's injury was not provided by the team after the game, but he is expected to undergo an MRI late Saturday night to determine the full extent of the damage.
Raynaud's potential long-term absence would be a substantial blow to the Sacramento Kings' plans for the upcoming season. He made a significant impact in his rookie year, earning a spot on the All-Rookie second team after averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds across 74 games. He was considered a key draft-night find with the 42nd pick and was anticipated to play a crucial frontcourt role, providing depth behind starting center Domantas Sabonis, to commence the season.
