Future of Luxury: 2026 Mercedes EQS400 SUV Redefines Electric Dominance!

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQS400 4Matic SUV positions itself as a leading contender in the luxury electric SUV segment by prioritizing ride comfort, quiet refinement, and advanced technology over outright sportiness. Tested on Los Angeles freeways, the EQS400’s air suspension in Comfort mode effectively absorbs road imperfections, rendering minor surface flaws nearly imperceptible. While its size and weight are always present, the vehicle delivers a serene, first-class driving experience that reinforces Mercedes-Benz’s luxury pedigree.
Although the optional AMG Line exterior package and 21-inch AMG-style wheels add visual aggression, the EQS400—along with the broader 2026 EQS SUV lineup—remains focused on relaxed, effortless travel. Minor drawbacks include occasional technology quirks and a slightly long brake-pedal travel, but these do little to detract from its overall polish as a premium electric SUV.
Smooth Performance with Impressive Braking
As the entry model in the EQS SUV range, the EQS400 is the least powerful of the trio but remains far from slow. Producing 355 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque from its dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, the 6,327-pound SUV accelerates from 0–60 mph in 5.2 seconds and completes the quarter mile in 13.9 seconds at just under 100 mph. Power delivery is exceptionally smooth, reinforcing the vehicle’s comfort-focused character.
While it cannot match the straight-line performance of rivals such as the Cadillac Vistiq Platinum or Lucid Gravity Touring, both of which reach 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, the EQS400 shines in braking. It stops from 60 mph in 114 feet, outperforming both competitors despite its somewhat soft pedal feel. Handling dynamics reflect its long 126.4-inch wheelbase, resulting in a deliberate and composed feel rather than agility, even with four-wheel steering. Compared to the earlier EQS450, however, the 2026 EQS400 delivers noticeably improved straight-line performance, aligning well with its intended audience.
Exceptional Range, Charging, and Interior Refinement
Range and charging performance are standout strengths of the EQS400. Its 118.0-kWh battery pack delivers an EPA-rated 312 miles, exceeding the Vistiq Platinum while trailing slightly behind the Lucid Gravity Touring. In real-world testing, however, the EQS400 excelled, covering 333 miles at a steady 70 mph, significantly outperforming both rivals. Fast-charging capability is equally impressive, adding 137 miles in 15 minutes and 252 miles in 30 minutes, with a peak rate of 209 kW. The inclusion of a NACS adapter enables access to Tesla Superchargers, enhancing long-distance usability.
Inside, the EQS400 delivers a quintessential Mercedes-Benz luxury experience. The expansive Hyperscreen dominates the dashboard, complemented by Burmester audio, ambient lighting, and optional Yacht-Designed walnut wood trim paired with Nappa leather upholstery. Comfort features include massaging seats, wireless smartphone integration, and generous space for five passengers. While a third-row seat is optional, it is best suited for children. Cargo space totals 74.0 cubic feet, and the SUV’s exterior design presents a more traditional and elegant profile than other EQS models.
On the road, the EQS400 glides effortlessly, particularly on highways, where adaptive cruise control and excellent sound insulation create a tranquil driving environment. Though its safety suite is comprehensive and cutting-edge, it can occasionally be over-sensitive, highlighting the evolving nature of driver-assistance systems. Priced from $91,200, with the tested model at $108,845, the 2026 EQS400 offers strong value relative to its predecessor and competitors, making it a compelling choice for buyers seeking refined, all-electric luxury rather than outright performance.
